This article is a quick & easy guide designed for absolute beginners to start their own WordPress blog without any difficulties. The whole process makes you successfully create your first WordPress blog as quick as you complete the following simple steps:

  1. Choose a name for your blog
  2. Get your Domain & Hosting
  3. Setup your Account and install WordPress
  4. Customize your blog design and layout
  5. Write your first blog post!

So, let’s begin with the 1st step to start a blog …

Step 1: Choose a name for your blog:

To start a blog, first of all, you’ll need to choose a name you like for your blog, that is called domain name, similar to this blog has its domain name “www.bloggingcrux.com.”  Type your desired domain name in the box below and click “Check” to know if the domain name is available for you to register, or it’s been already registered by someone else. If the domain name you checked (www.YourSite.com) isn’t available, try adding some prefix (like www.TheYourSite.com) or any other word you like. You can also try to find something related to your name in your blog domain name. Also, it’s recommended to find the domain extension either .com, or .net, or .org as these are top-level domains, but if you understand you can go to other extensions as well.

Check Domain Availability

Found your domain available? Great! Check below to get a free domain with hosting!

Step 2: Get your Domain & Hosting:

Once you find your blog domain name is available, the next step is to buy that Domain & web Hosting. You must have a web hosting to have a blog. A web host is a company that puts your blog files on the internet and serves them to the user when they type your domain name (www.YourSite.com) in the browser.

There are many web hosting providers, but my recommendation for your blog is BlueHost. In fact, BlueHost is the one I trust and personally use for my blog “bloggingcrux.com.”

Choosing a bad web host will result in often downtime and slow page loading for your blog that can doom your blog from the beginning. Users of your blog will be frustrated, and Google also hates the blog that makes the users wait to load.

That’s why most other bloggers and I trust BlueHost Hosting to host our blogs. WordPress (we’re going to install in the next step) also recommends BlueHost. So I suggest you go with BlueHost, you’ll never regret.

Because BlueHost is a top-quality web host they cost a bit more ($5.99 per month) than low-quality web hosts. But if you use one of the links on this site you will get a free domain and 42% discount on BlueHost’s high-quality web hosting for just $3.49 per month (for 36 months).

Get Free Domain & 42% off on Hosting

–If you click on above button or link, Bluehost.com will open in new tab. Now click on “get started now” button as shown in the image below.

–Then select a hosting plan. I recommend the starter plan for new bloggers. Click “Select” to choose your plan.

–Type your blog domain name in the left box and select extension then click next.

–If the domain name is available (If the domain isn’t available type another to check if available) you will be redirected to the registration page with a congratulation message. Here you’ll need to provide the account billing information.

–After filling the account information, choose the account plan. Starter, 36-month package, would be a smart choice, but the 12-month or 24-month package is also an excellent option. After that, uncheck the boxes next to other products you don’t need right now because you can add those products anytime later when you need.

–Provide the card detail to pay by credit card (or you can also check more payment options link there if you need)

— Check the box to agree to their terms of services, then click on “submit” button. Your account would complete setup in a few minute.

Step 3: Setup your Account and install WordPress:

Once your account setup is complete go to Bluehost homepage and click “login” on the top menu. Enter the domain name and password login into your account.

— Click hosting at the top menu, then find and click “install WordPress” under website section.

— Click on “Install” button.

— Check if your domain is already selected in the drop-down list there, and Leave the directory empty then click on “Check Domain” button.

— Now check both the box (see in the image below to make your doubts clear).

— When you check the box next to Show advanced options, a form will open where you can set your blog title, username and password of your choice. Be notified this username and password aren’t the same you used at the time to register and login to your BlueHost hosting account. I recommend creating a distinct set of username and password here (for WordPress). This username and password will be used to login you into admin dashboard of your WordPress blog. Once you ar are done all this, click on “Install Now

— You’ll see your WordPress installation is in progress, which may take a while.

— When the installation is complete, click on “View Credentials

— Now you’ll see a notification that your login credential is only available for 12 hours, after that it will be disappeared automatically. So click on “view” and make sure to write it down in a safe place.

— Finally, here’s the login information to login into your blog’s admin dashboard. Your admin URL should be like http://www.YourSite.com/wp-admin and use the username and password shown there to log in, also, I would like to remind you to note down this information in safe place before it disappears.

— Now go to http://www.YourSite.com/wp-admin in another tab of the browser (replace “yoursite.com” with your domain name) and login into your WordPress administration area.

Step 4: Customize your blog design and layout :

Recommended: Essential settings to do immediately after WordPress installation.

Once you log in, you will be into your newly created WordPress blog administrator area. This is where you’ll make any changes you want in your blog. To start with, you will probably wish to change the title and tagline of your blog. To do this, go to the bottom of the left menu and click on “Settings”. That should take you to below screen:

–Also, if you like to change your permalink go to Settings->Permalinks and change it to what structure you prefer. I personally use (&  recommend to you) http://www.YourSite.com/sample-post/  structure on this blog.

— After completing the above settings you may now wish to customize your blog design and layout. To do this click “Appearance” on the left menu. Here you can install and activate any theme you like the most from thousands of free themes available in WordPress theme repository.

— Now finally, this is the time to publish your blog by clicking on “click here” link near the top. But if you don’t want to do it now, there’s no problem!, you can also publish your blog after writing your first blog post.

Step 5: Write your first blog post:

Blogging is all about writing, so let’s learn how to write your first blog post.

Click on “Posts” in the left menu, you will see there is already a post titled “Hello world!”  Which is actually a default post on every new WordPress blog, you can either edit or delete it. I suggest to delete it clicking “Trash” just under the post.

–Now we are going to write your first blog post. So, to start a blog post writing, click on “Add New” link (found in either the left menu or next to the word “Posts”).

— This should take you to the WordPress post creator page. You can enter the title of your post in the top box and then begin writing your post in the lower box. (See in the image below to clear your doubts).

You can also add images to your post by clicking on “Add Media” located between title and post content box.

— After finishing your post writing, click on “Publish” on the right side of the post creator page to publish your first blog post.

That’s it!
